Artist Statement
I love making pottery people use in their everyday life – for that first cup of coffee in the morning, serving the kids favorite meal or sneaking a bowl of ice cream before bed. Each of those occasions and so many more are made more joyful when experienced in handmade pottery. My body of work is split between cone 6 oxidation firing and cone 10 wood firing which allows me to create very colorful pots from the electric kiln, but also some very earthy, organic looking pots from the wood kiln.
Biography
Sue Pariseau is a studio potter making functional stoneware, wood-fired pottery at her studio in rural Lanesboro Minnesota. Prior to moving to Lanesboro, she spent two decades in a studio in her hometown of Farmington Minnesota.
Being a life long creative, Sue dove into pottery in mid-life gaining knowledge at community ed classes, community studios and workshops. Lessons learned from lots of trial and error (so much error!) are powerful teachers and the product of those lesseons can still be found at her studio.
The majority of Sue’s work is fired in her small bourry box woodfired kiln named Gertie. This firing process creates earthy and lots of times unpredictable results .
Sue sells her work online, at her Lanesboro studio during Bluff Country Studio Art Tour and Lanesboro Area Art Trail as well as local galleries and shops.
Most recently, Sue is the commissioned artist providing “treasures” for Red Wing Arts Treasures on the Trail.
